Although, we find ourselves (yet again) eliminated from the playoff hunt I believe that there are a number of promising things to take away from this season. When looking at the overall record you would expect that the Skins got dominated week in and week out, but in actuality had a handful of plays gone differently the Redskins could easily find themselves sitting at 7-6 and fighting for the NFC East championship. Two close one's against Dallas and a high scoring battle with New England could have easily gone the Redskins way.<br /><br />From the New England game, it was nice to see the Redskins offense could go punch for punch and match the high powered NE offense all the way to the very end. Now I realize that the Patriot's defense is downright abysmal currently, but it's been a while since we've seen that kind of scoring from the Skins, so I'll look on the bright side.<br /><br />Now the above game also showed us one of our biggest problems, one which is certainly not a new one; weakness at the QB position. The game ended with a poorly executed Rex Grossman pass that had about as much zip on it as a fastball thrown by my 4 year old niece. Grossman has had some great throws throughout the year, but has proven every week that he lacks consistency, something every successful NFL QB possesses.<br /><br />I believe the Redskins are beginning to improve, but we can't expect much until we get QB position sorted out. We'll have to see how the draft and free agency periods pan during the off season, and see if the Skins can continue to build on the improvements they maid at positions like WR and RB last off season.Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-83292629613117421592010-04-24T20:36:00.000-07:002010-04-24T20:40:29.771-07:00Campbell to RaidersThis just down from the skins site. Jason Campbell has been dealt to the Raiders. No word yet on what we got for him, but at least he's gone. <div><br /></div><div>Listen, Jason Campbell is a really nice guy I'm sure, and he never had an offensive line to give him a real chance but he simply was not the answer to our long lingering qb problem. Let's hope for positive things.</div>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-79842746834622887072010-04-04T18:29:00.000-07:002010-04-04T18:35:28.026-07:00Redskins trade for McnabbI can't believe it. The Redskins today, for some reason traded this years 2nd round pick and a 3rd or 4th in the 2011 draft for Donovan Mcnabb. I personally do not understand why you would want to pay the kind of money he is due for a quarterback who is clearly far past his prime. I have lobbied for a long time now for the skins to do something about the QB situation, but this is not what I had in mind. I cannot stand the thought of him in a Washington Redskins uniform.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-52695186423911628662010-04-01T15:13:00.000-07:002010-04-01T15:17:27.485-07:00Redskins draft Claussen? The Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shannahan met with Notre Dame Quarterback Jimmy Claussen today. There is no word yet on how the meeting went, but with the skins having the fourth pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft coupled with their obvious need for a top prospect at the quarterback spot this could be a big sign of what to expect from them with their pick.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-52693581299723750192010-03-16T10:12:00.000-07:002010-03-16T10:20:36.880-07:00Redskins Sign Larry JohnsonThe Redskins have finally gotten into the free agency race by signing Larry Johnson Friday. Johnson and the Redskins have agreed to a three-year deal worth $3.5 million. With incentives Johnson could see as much as $12 million.<br /><br />If Portis can stay healthy, this could be a good addition. Let me know your thoughts on this recent addition that came down from <a href="http://espn.com">www.espn.com</a> .Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-55945207120564911452010-03-10T15:36:00.000-08:002010-03-10T15:44:41.455-08:00Larry Johnson to Meet with Redskins ThursdayWord just broke earlier today that there is a meeting scheduled for Thursday between the new Redskins front office and former Chiefs and Bengals back Larry Johnson. Coming fresh off of last weeks layoffs, the Redskins certainly have the spots to fill with the dismissal of Betts and Cartwright. <div><br /></div><div>I have mixed feelings about the possibility of the skins signing Larry Johnson. I think he could make a great backup to Portis, and do say "could". He has proven to be a bit of handful in the past couple years, which I don't think Redskins fans would put up with. Also, with Portis nearing the end of his career, Johnson is certainly no long term replacement. Although, we have all seen Larry Johnson's capabilities in the past and coupled with a healthy Portis we could see a running game somewhat reminiscant of the glory days.</div><div><br /></div><div>I will be sure to post an update tomorrow as soon as I hear any news that may come out of the meeting. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on the possible addition of Larry Johnson.</div>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-80546920872331972482010-03-08T19:07:00.000-08:002010-03-09T16:03:14.442-08:00Redskins Fans Find Support in Unlikely PlaceI will keep this quick as it is a touchy subject, but today I received some news that I'm not sure how to react to. Redskins fans who are fed up with Dan Snyder may have found some support in an unlikely place; Emmitt Smith.<div><br /></div><div>No before you go apes*!t and accuse me of being a traitor, I do realize that he also took some cheap shots at the Redskins as a whole (and I still hate him) and I do not condone that. I did however find it relieving to once again hear someone bashing the man that I hold responsible for our shortcomings in the recent past. See Emmitt's comments below and form your own opinion. I agree mostly with the part referring to Snyder's propencity for spending money with little to no football knowledge.</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(17, 17, 17); line-height: 14px; font-family:arial, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><blockquote style="margin-top: 0.77em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.77em; margin-left: 1.92em; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0.77em; line-height: 1.22em; color: rgb(118, 118, 118); border-left-width: 1px; border-left-style: solid; border-left-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); "><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 1.54em; font-size: 13px; ">"I loved defeating the Redskins," said Smith. "I loved it, I loved it, I loved it with a passion. And I loved it more when Daniel Snyder got the team, for a number of reasons. I did. Because here is a guy who thought he could build a football team just because he has the money to buy players. There's more to it than that.</p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 1.54em; font-size: 13px; ">"And he's not a compassionate person, not a compassionate person at all from what I understand. And that makes me just want to pummel somebody. You know, you hate to see pride, wearing itself on his forehead and his chest. And to me, arrogance sticks out like a sore thumb when you talk about him. And the lack of compassion for others is a problem. Because it's not that hard to be compassionate; you just choose to."</p><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 20px;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></span></div></blockquote></span></div>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-66303629509209921242010-03-08T18:50:00.000-08:002010-03-09T15:59:06.653-08:00Redskins Make MovesAs most of you may have now heard, this past week the Washington Redskins made headlines by releasing 10 players. Some of these players were somewhat surprising. Although, 7 of the 10 players were over the age of thirty. This move was undoubtedly sparked by the need to clear the way for a number of younger players who will hopefully help to return the Redskins to the storied franchise that we know and love.<div><br /></div><div>This list of cuts marks the first major move by the Redskins new leadership that is also known as Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan. The meddling Dan Snyder has supposedly yielded roster control to these two who actually know the game of football. Only time will tell if this proves to be true, but if the past is in any way indicative of the future it will not.</div><div><br /></div><div>Of the cuts announced by the Redskins, I was most happy to see the departure of Antwaan Randle El. The overrated thirty something has plagued our special teams for far too long now with his negative yard returns and muffed punts. I will also no longer be subjected to his senseless celebrations following a three yard reception.</div><div><br /></div><div>All in all I believe the cuts will ultimately prove to be beneficial granted Snyder can mind his own business. Check back later this week and we will discuss who is available to fill these gaps both around the league and in the upcoming draft. </div>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195522931206766246.post-22121817962249629202010-03-06T06:27:00.000-08:002010-03-07T09:19:01.379-08:00The Redskins War CryToday marks the beginning of "The War Cry". After much thought and planning, I have finally done what I have been thinking of (and pressured) to do for quite a while. I am creating a blog to discuss everything Washington Redskins.<div><br /></div><div>With NFL free agency beginning and the Draft just a short time away (maybe not that short, but I'm an optimist) this blog will track and discuss all the moves made by the greatest franchise in pro sports. </div><div><br /></div><div>I welcome all feedback and suggestions (unless you're a Cowboys or Eagles fan) and look forward to providing as much information and insight as one can handle.</div>Skins Fanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11810137139622169351noreply@blogger.com0
