So, as the title states, it's been quite some time since I last updated the War Cry but now I'm back.
This season has been another disappointing one for our beloved Redskins, even after a very promising start. Although, we find ourselves (yet again) eliminated from the playoff hunt I believe that there are a number of promising things to take away from this season. When looking at the overall record you would expect that the Skins got dominated week in and week out, but in actuality had a handful of plays gone differently the Redskins could easily find themselves sitting at 7-6 and fighting for the NFC East championship. Two close one's against Dallas and a high scoring battle with New England could have easily gone the Redskins way.
From the New England game, it was nice to see the Redskins offense could go punch for punch and match the high powered NE offense all the way to the very end. Now I realize that the Patriot's defense is downright abysmal currently, but it's been a while since we've seen that kind of scoring from the Skins, so I'll look on the bright side.
Now the above game also showed us one of our biggest problems, one which is certainly not a new one; weakness at the QB position. The game ended with a poorly executed Rex Grossman pass that had about as much zip on it as a fastball thrown by my 4 year old niece. Grossman has had some great throws throughout the year, but has proven every week that he lacks consistency, something every successful NFL QB possesses.
I believe the Redskins are beginning to improve, but we can't expect much until we get QB position sorted out. We'll have to see how the draft and free agency periods pan during the off season, and see if the Skins can continue to build on the improvements they maid at positions like WR and RB last off season.
